Peace Mondo, we are excited to sit with you today and introduce our readers to you and your music. Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about what you do.
Peace, I'm Mondo Slade and I'm the dialogue master with the ski mask. Right now I'm one of the ones that stand out in today's underground rap scene.
Please describe your sound and the style of music you make.
I'm actually not sure how to describe my style. I just keep my sound, rhymes, cadences different from everybody else. A lot of people tell me it's more of a new age underground 90’s feel to my music.
You're a solo artist as well part of the group “BlkVngd” which is Prime Minister, King REM and yourself. How did “BlkVngd” come about?
My two brothers Prime and Rem and myself grew up together, went to highschool together. We all individually were making music for a while then combined forces about ten years ago and started making hits. Between us three, we do mostly all of our own beats, engineering, mixing, videos, artwork and merch. We're pretty much as self-sufficient as they come.
When recording for group projects how does you process change if any? Do you prefer solo work or group work or does it really not matter much?
My process pretty much stays the same for every project. All of my projects are solo with the exception of “The F.O.L.D.”, which is one I teamed up with Prime Minister for. I usually come up with most of the song and album concepts and then we collaborate on all of the visual ideas.
Your most recent project “Sleight of Hand” released in June of 2024. So the project has been out for about a month at this time. What has the reaction been like from the listeners and fans?
So far I've gotten a lot of love from the album. It's been going crazy, I've heard a couple of the joints get spun on shade 45. Also I'm getting mentions from people from everywhere on my socials, of reaction videos, custom album artwork and even tik tok dancing clips…so it's been doing great so far
“Sleight of Hand” is just under 30 minutes spanning over 12 tracks. What is your favorite track off this project, one that means the most to you and are most excited for the fans to hear?
I would have to say my favorite track is “We Could Fly” feat. Johnny Storm, Prime and Poetic Ness. It's just a powerful soulful beat with us spilling our hearts out on it. I kinda got the title from a book I read when I was little called, “The People Could Fly.” It was about slaves telling folktales about flying away and being free. Ness topped it off with one of the illest poems I've heard her do. It's a deep song that means a lot to me.
Who are some of the producers and artists who are featured and contributed to this release?
Of course Rem and Prime do the bulk of the production, but I also got MGerm and Samy on the production. As far as features I got Estee Nack, Eddie Kaine, Johnny Storm, Syd Vicious, Poetic Ness and Him Lo.
What inspires not only your music but your grind of creating so much music and releasing it so quickly, three albums in seven months.
Well I'm just inspired by my peers and my team. Since the climate for music has changed since back then, I wanted to release a decent amount of projects to hold people's attention and to give them a good idea of the type of music we are doing over here. Since we do our own everything, it's not hard to pump out projects, it's just about laying out a plan and being focused. I'm tryna outwork the next guy.
Seeing your hustle it’s only right to assume even more music is on the way, before we wrap up let the readers know what to keep an eye and ear out for and why they should get familiar with Mondo Slade.?
I'm working on a few new projects right now and hopefully I'll drop one before the year is out. Just keep an eye out in general for more eye popping videos, more dangerous features and more creative albums. I'm loaded with all types of ammo for the rest of the year.
